Set Dvr's to Record!

When: Novermber 3rd at 8pm.
Where: ABC
ABC's V premiers this week and it has gotten good reviews all around. I am very excited for this show, I mean who doesn't love a good sci-fi show? Anyway hopefully it airs as planned I'm pretty tired of The World Series interrupting my television shows. Though ABC has been very good about airing new episodes anyway. So V is a remake of an older show that you're probably all to young to remember. I am. It has to do with aliens coming and making contact with us and winning everyone over all the while probably planning the destruction of our species. ABC is only airing 4 episodes before the winter Olympics so it'll probably need good ratings to get a full season order which i would love. Show your support, Watch V!

Scariest Movie Ever?

OK so I'm a little late to the party with my review of Paranormal Activity, but I was there for the midnight showing the first night to maximize the scariness. I've just been delinquent when it comes blogging. Anyway I love horror movies, I love cheesy, violent, bloody horror movies. I love anything that's suspenseful. So let me tell you how excited i was for this movie...very. So me and my fiance are in the theatre with our popcorn it's 12:15 the theater is packed and the excitement is palpable. This is the scariest movie ever, right? 1 hour and 39 minutes later me and my finance stare at each other in confusion...or maybe disbelief. Did we really just waste that time in our lives...not to mention $45 for tickets and food. Was this it? A cheesy amateur porn movie where our couple fails to have sex...or a bad episode of Ghost hunters that fails to scare us. The movie does manage to build some suspense, but it's drawn out by us watching people have lunch or brush their teeth. In the end it fails to deliver what it promises.
Wild Things!

So i watched Where the Wild Things Are and I have to say that I was genuinely pleased with how it came out. First I want to point out that regardless of the source material this was not really a children's movie. It was steeped in emotional turmoil and bursts of anger and was sometimes a little scary. But it was beautiful, Spike Jonze completely captured the look and feel of the book. The "Wild things" themselves were amazing. I don't know if they were computer generated, puppetry or a mixture of both. But it was the most incredibly authentic performances from all of them. The range of emotions visible on the Wild Things faces was...well i can't really explain it. definitely something that needs to be seen. If there was an academy award for best performance for a non-living character Carol or KW would win, hands down. I say if you fondly remember the book then go see this movie. Of course since the book is really short the story may not be what you remember but there are definitely some classic lines from the book to look out for.

Where in the world have I been?

Sorry for the lack of posts people. But I've been busy playing video games that I haven't really had time to post anything. That and I'm just unbelievably lazy. But i plan to definitely continue posting reviews and my thoughts on the world. Does anyone else feel like television has lost it's luster this year. I mean all the new shows this year are absolute crap, except for The Good Wife on CBS and Stargate Universe on SyFy. There is nothing to watch, and i don't even really want to watch the older shows, I think I may be giving up on heroes for good. I think Jay Leno and NBC are the beginning of the end of good television as we know it. Anyway that's all i have to say

Don't Miss

Tonight is the Series Premier of the new Fox show Glee. I have watched the preview episode and let me tell you it is a great show. The music is wonderful, it's very smartly written. I'd say this is one of my top pick for new shows to watch. Also don't forget about the new season of So You Think You Can Dance. Set your television to Fox at 8 tonight, they're the only channel with new stuff on tonight, so don't miss it.

Looking Ahead
Check out the new movie trailer for Disney's Princess and the Frog. I'm really excited about this movie since Disney is bringing back the 2D musical back. I hope it's definitely not the last. I love classic animation and I'm glad they're realizing that it deserves a place in our society along with computer animation.
ON Tonight!

90210 fans rejoice, tonight is the season Premier we've all been waiting for, where we finally find out who's car we saw at the end of the season and who it was that Annie Wilson hit while driving drunk. Also Melrose Place premiers tonight at 9 so many of you will be happy about that. I was never really a fan of the old Melrose Place, but I'm going to give the new show a chance. I'll post my thoughts about the first episode later.

Set Dvr's to Record!

It's that time of year again people, Fall Premiers! It's certainly my favorite time of year and my dvr will be close to bursting. Fortunately i just upgraded my Dvr for a newer model with double the recording capacity! Check you local cable companies to see if they offer and upgrade. I had a lot of close calls last year going to watch a show and realizing that my recording capacity was at 99% percent. It's the worst, we've all had our free dvr space marathons. Anyway back to the new season. The biggest news is that NBC will no longer have any more shows after 10, they've slimmed their entire lineup so that we have the pleasure of watching Jay Leno five times a week. Like we haven't seen him before, I may try it but I'm definitely not watching it 5 times a week, especially when ABC and CBS are still playing shows after 10. Obviously they wanted to cut back and just make money which Jay Leno has certainly done for them. There's a plethora of new shows to watch and most of our favorites are returning as well. Listed Below are the premier date and time of all the new shows that have been scheduled. Below that is the list of all returning shows premier dates. Don't freak out if you don't see one of your favorite shows like Lost, or 24 they are mid-season premiers and they won't be on this list.

Ponyo

Review-For those of you that don't know Ponyo if a Japanese film by director Hayao Miyazaki. His movies are big in Japan and the last couple ones he's made have made it over to art houses subtitled. Which is how I prefer to watch my Japanese animation. Ponyo this time is getting a full distribution treatment by Disney. It is dubbed, which usually I mind, but Disney does a good job of getting the right actors and probably having high production values. I can definitely say that it is the best dubbed anime I have ever watched. Ponyo is a great family film and I would recommend it for all ages. It's about a 5 year old boy that catches this little fish princess and thinks it's a goldfish. Her father is some sort of sea god and tries to get her back and it's about how she becomes enamored with him and tries to find her way back. Its well done and quite touching. This movie is overflowing with cuteness, not Teletubbie freaky cuteness, but the good kind. I watched it with my 12 year old niece and we both enjoyed it thoroughly. So go check it out.
Time Traveler's Wife

Review-Time Traveler's Wife was a great book. But it had the ability to lose readers because it jumped around it's timeline a lot. But i thought it was great, I've been waiting for this movie ever since I heard Plan B picked it up a couple of years ago. For those of you that don't know that is Brad and Jennifer's production company. So yes this movie has been in limbo a long time. I think they were still together when they acquired the rights to the movie. Anyway the movie is a lot more straightforward than the book. They focus on the constant Time line and travel from there, which makes it easier to follow than the book. It's a little diluted and there are some changes at the end of the movie that were not at the end of the book. I think maybe to make it a little happier, i don't know, that's the new fad don't even get me started about My Sister's Keeper. But overall it was worth watching. Basically Clare Abshire (Rachael McAdams) has spent her whole life waiting for Henry DeTamble (Eric Bana). I liked it, my fiance did not, but I'm sappier than her anyway. She saw it as an anti-feminist statement about how a women is always waiting for a man. Which i guess if you put it that way, it kinda does. Anyway if you liked the book, you'll like the movie. Go check it out.
Inglourious Basterds

Review-Tarentino is known for a lot of things, gore, action, and straight up cool stuff. Basterds seems to move away from that if only in a small way. Instead of the intense action and violence being the center point of this film the the story is the center. And it really is a good pseudo alternate reality kind of story. It's strong, intelligent and really brings you into the other reality. Brad Pitt was hilarious, as the trailers show him to be. The way he talks is a little ridiculous and can be grating at times, but he pulls off a funny character. What is really suprising is how french actress Melanie Laurent completely steals the movie. I have never seen her in anything else, looking her up on imdb it seems she's only done french films. But she is charming, beautiful, and vicious all at the same time. I hope this lauches a career in american cinema for her, because she is amazing. All in all Basterds was a really good movie and it seems to be a step up from Tarentinos normal offensive movie to something dramatically engaging. I'd love to see what he comes up with next.

Avatar Teaser!
James Cameron's Avatar teaser trailer has been released. This movie is supposed blow our minds. Supposedly it is the Titanic of sci-fi. It kind of looks a little cartoony to me apparently it was supposed to bridge the gap between computer animation and reality...well it's just a teaser so we'll see how it looks when the movie comes out. So watch it below and let me know what you think.

Public Service Announcement
Texting while driving has been becoming a bigger issue recently. Seems like the British are releasing a very graphic PSA about the dangers of texting. Warning this video is very graphic so please watch at your own risk. Send a very strong message.
New Moon
Speaking of vampires, here is the just released trailer for New Moon, the next part of the Twilight saga. Enjoy!
Another View

There has been a resurgence of the vampire in the public light recently and for a sci-fi fan it's definitely a good thing. I remember hearing about this foreign vampire movie Let the Right One In, sometime last year. I watched it the other day and i just wanted to give my thoughts on it. It's available now on DVD dubbed in English. I would have preferred to watch it subtitled, but whatever. It was definitely a well written movie, it's not your normal horror movie, this movie actually has substance. They probably had a small budget but they had to rely on the story. But there are a couple of cool special effect scenes. The movie is about a little boy who is teased at school and dreams of killing his offenders. A girl moves in next door and she only comes out at night. Her guardian goes out and gets blood for her( who is not a vampire). It's really interesting and worth a watch. I've added the trailer below. Check it out.
